I'm back! (sort of)

I am in a workshop where we are setting up blogs. So I am revisiting this blog. Perhaps I will try to get back to it, perhaps not. Looking back at my previous blog entries, they were pretty entertaining. I'll try to reach deep down into my being so that I can ressurect this blog ... maybe.

Interesting bus story number 234

Once again my bus came 10 minutes early today. I was not happy. There happened to be a COTA supervisor at the bus stop, and he's the one who told me it came early. But guess what? He drove me downtown and dropped me off in front of my building! Now that's service. I made a point of calling COTA about my positive experience since I'm sure they mostly deal with negative feedback. So a day that started out badly turned out to be not bad at all!

A quick note ...

My dog, Jessie, likes it when my backyard gets flooded from the rain. She can drink water from a puddle like a wolf.

Cruel, but also funny

I came across this story on the UK Daily Mail website:

"Botox is turning Nicole Kidman into a 'bat face,' says cosmetic guru"

The story, complete with a comparison photo, can be seen here.

Sheriff: Woman Sat on Toilet for 2 Years

Have you heard of this story? Here's an excerpt:

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Authorities are considering charges in the bizarre case of a woman who sat on her boyfriend's toilet for two years — so long that her body was stuck to the seat by the time the boyfriend finally called police.

Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple said it appeared the 35-year-old Ness City woman's skin had grown around the seat. She initially refused emergency medical services but was finally convinced by responders and her boyfriend that she needed to be checked out at a hospital.

"We pried the toilet seat off with a pry bar and the seat went with her to the hospital," Whipple said. "The hospital removed it."

A devious thief

OK. I'm almost positive I put the remainder of my stolen and half-eaten loaf of bread in a cupboard. But it was in the middle of the living room floor this morning. This would mean that a cat opened the cupboard door, grabbed on to the package and knocked it off the counter. This time, the bread was uneaten, leading me to believe that my dog, Jessie, was asleep when this happened. My cats are too dainty to chew through a package of bread. They can only eat bite-sized things because they are so spoiled.

I will keep you updated on this ongoing saga.

Aiding and abetting

I believe one or more of my cats is an accomplice in a crime involving a loaf of bread. And my dog. I came home tonight and saw the loaf in the middle of the living room with the package chewed through and a big chunk of bread missing.
My dog, Jessie, could not have taken the bread by herself. A cat had to knock it from the counter to the floor. I guess Jessie could have taken it from there.
All I know is for sure is that almost I'm out of unchewed bread and no one is talking. Geez.

Newly-discovered photo

An 1888 photo was recently found that shows Helen Keller and her teacher, Annie Sullivan:

According to USA Today:

"This photograph shows Helen Keller, 8, holding hands with her teacher, Anne Sullivan, during an 1888 vacation on Cape Cod.

The New England Historic Genealogical Society says an employee found the image, thought to be earliest photograph of the nation's best known deaf-blind activist, while reviewing a large collection that was recently donated to the Boston group."

As a kid I read everything I could about Helen Keller. I found this photo very interesting.

The obligatory bowl of fruit photo

From the tip of her feet to the top of her head

Here is a picture of my dog, Jessie, proving that she is longer than my tripod.

Remember ...

I had a Mrs. Beasley Doll, I loved Ramona the Pest and as a pre-teen I was in love with Parker Stevenson and the entire Partridge family.

Life of a skeptic

Do you believe what it says on the toilet paper package? Are there really 200 sheets, or 150 sheets -- whatever the package says? Leo Hill doesn't, and he has facts to back this up. According to the Denver Post:

"Acting on an idea from his wife, Doris, the 81-year-old former maintenance worker set out to settle a problem.

"She complained that a roll in the 12-pack would last just three days and the same size in the four-roll pack lasted four," Hill explained. "I wanted to find out."

Hill figured he had the time, since there wasn't much else to do but read or stare at the shower curtain. So he counted every sheet of toilet paper as he used it."

And what did Hill find out?

"At the end of the month, Hill said his nine-roll average was 156.75 sheets for the rolls of Angel Soft that promised 198 on the package."

Hill took his information to the Better Business Bureau. The maker of Angel Soft, Georgia-Pacific, was notified. So far, Georgia-Pacific has not responded.

A unique place to store books

Here is a picture of a library built into a staircase:

As a professional librarian, I just have to point out that this looks like an excellent way to break your neck.

Sleeveface.com

Here's a definition of Sleeveface:

"one or more persons obscuring or augmenting any part of their body or bodies with record sleeve(s) causing an illusion."

And here is an example:

Drew as Edie

According to afterellen.com, Drew Barrymore is going to play my favorite person, Little Edie Beale, in a film production of Grey Gardens. Here's what the blog has to say:

Drew Barrymore: Edith Beale made me a woman

Thoughts on the blizzard

  • Dogs with short legs won't go outside until their owners create special dog paths in the snow so the can take care of business.
  • Shoveling causes tremendous lower back pain.
  • It's worth $10 to pay a couple kids to finish shoveling the driveway you've valiantly tried to clear yourself.
  • If your newspaper comes, chanced are you can't find it.
  • It would do you good to get to befriend the guy down the street with a snowblower.
  • It really is "through rain, snow, sleet or hail" with the post office. The UPS man too.
  • Sometimes the weather people are right.
  • Buses are definitely the best mode of transportation in treacherous weather.
  • Those Columbian boots you got last year are worth every penny you paid for them.

Hillary ruined my evening

All this Ohio election buzz is really exciting. But I do have a big complaint. Hillary Clinton is watching the election results in the building I stand in front of to catch the bus. The bus stop is non-existent - there are reporters and satellite trucks everywhere.

I won't go into how hard it was to catch my bus, suffice it to say I stood in the rain for 45 minutes. I'm now on the bus and it went around in a big circle trying to get out of downtown. We sat unmoving at a light for about 15 minutes. Now the bus driver is taking us on a scary and exciting detour. I'm going to get home late late late. If I make it home at all ...

More photos ...

A mean black bird

Here's a picture of one of the bossy black birds that hangs around my house sometimes. I like how they have shiny heads.

Bird seed nose

Here is another picture of Jessie with a dirty nose. She's been especially busy today because it's in the 60s -- perfect dog weather. I have the day off so she's basically pretending to be an outside dog today!

Unidentified Flying Object

Doesn't this ceiling fan look like a ufo? Or maybe a satellite. It just takes a little imagination!

Why oh why do I only have boring birds at my house?

I think the above photo is of a finch ...
... and this is a sparrow.

Blast from the past

Does anyone remember what these are called? I used to collect them as a kid, and for the life of me I can't remember what they were called. I think it had the word "whacky" in it. Any help would be appreciated!
