It snowed this morning. I got on the first bus I saw. I met a new group of bus friends, and we had a fine old time talking about the upcoming election. Many of them have never voted, but they will this year because they think their vote might actually make a difference.
A bus friend is someone who becomes your friend simply because you take the same bus. Today, my bus friends were people I'd never met before because I was taking a different bus. I have several regular bus friends on my regular bus. I talk to them everyday, but I don't know their names. One of my bus friends told me yesterday that I wouldn't be seeing her anymore because her work schedule changed. This is unusual - often bus friends just disappear, never to be seen again.
There's a group of women I feel particularly close to because every weekday we take our lives in our hands crossing Cleveland Avenue. We cross it as a pack, thus giving us more power and intimidation over drivers who want to turn left into us.
If you've never taken a bus, I suggest you give it a try. At the very least, you'll save yourself from having to drive somewhere. And you might make a friend or two in the process!

I'm glad the bus commute was smoother today.
I really liked taking the bus; I wish it was still feasible. I loved not having to think on the way home--I could just space out and rest from work. Then I was ready to be home when I got there.
